David Best (Bass)

Barbara Brewer (Soprano II)

Joseph "Joe" Browne (Tenor), a resident of Norfolk, is active in the music ministry at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he is a cantor.

Michelle Castillo (Soprano) first performed with Schola Cantorum in Spring 2003. In addition, she is a cantor, chorister and bell choir member at Holy Trinity Church in Norfolk, as well as a singer and instrumentalist for the MARO Choir in her workplace. Ms. Castillo minored in music at the College of William and Mary and is currently employed in the insurance industry. A resident of Norfolk, she is a novice runner and loves "antiquing!"

Margaret Chewning (Soprano) joined Schola Cantorum in Fall 2002. She has been active in music ministry her entire life, most recently as a section leader and soloist at Ocean View Presbyterian Church. Ms. Chewning formerly performed with the New Orleans Symphony Chorus and Old Dominion University's Madrigal Singers as well as in local musical theater. She is a Specifications Consultant and a Certified Contracts Administrator whose expertise supports architects and engineers in the Tidewater area. Ms. Chewning resides with her family in the Willoboughby Spit area of Norfolk.

Dan Cudney (Tenor/Bass) has been performing with Schola Cantorum since Fall 2002. He studied classical guitar with Alex Brewer and later Oswald Rantucci at the University of Buffalo, and he gave lectures and recitals at various schools and colleges upstate. He has studied locally at Old Dominion University (ODU) with Michael Murphy. Mr. Cudney plays Basso Continuo with the ODU Musicum Collegium, an early music orchestra. In addition, he arranges music and plays with the Tidewater Guitar Orchestra (TGO) in many venues in the Lower Chesapeake Bay Region. TGO recently released a CD that contains a number of Mr. Cudney’s arrangements for Guitar Orchestra! He is a section leader at Ocean View Presbyterian Church and resides with his family in the Willoboughby Spit area of Norfolk.

Sara Smith Garner (Soprano II) formerly performed with the Virginia Symphonic Chorus and Bellissima. She has been with Schola Cantorum since its second year, and she is a chorister at First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Presently a full-time mother, Ms. Garner applies her 17 years experience in the marketing and public relations workforce as the group's Program Chair, and she assists with publicity, advertisement and flyer design. Ms. Garner is honored to be a student of Emily Stauch in Virginia Beach. She lives in historic Winona with her husband, son and daughter, where they enjoy working on their 1919 Craftsman bungalow and watching the egrets and herons fish in the Lafayette River. For relaxation, she spends time with her children and indulges in gourmet coffee!

Ralph Garner (Tenor)

Daniel P. Giesy (Bass) is a charter member of Schola Cantorum in 1994 and, after a few years hiatus, rejoined the group in Fall 2000. He has been a member of the Virginia Choral Society since May 1979, the Virginia Beach Symphony Chorus since its founding in January 2003, and several other of Hampton Roads' outstanding choral groups. A resident of Colonial Place in Norfolk, Mr. Giesy is a mathematician at the NASA Langley Research Center where he works on guidance and control problems.

Maureen Hayes (Alto)

William "Bill" Hunter (Bass) has performed with Schola Cantorum and has served on the Board of Directors since its founding. His early choral experiences include the Trinity College Chapel Choir and their all-male ensemble The Chanticleers. Mr. Hunter also has performed with the Virginia Symphony Chorus, the Virginia Beach Symphony Chorus, and he has been member of Cantata Chorus and the Eastern Shore Chapel Choir since the early 1980's. He is an active member of Chorus America. A retired Naval Officer, Mr. Hunter presently is employed as Advance Planning Manager supervising Naval vessel overhauls for Metro Machine, Inc. He and his wife love gardening and travel.

Joan S. Kennedy (Soprano II) joined Schola Cantorum in 2004. She teaches piano and voice and is the choir director at Unity Renaissance Church. A voice student of Emily Stauch, Ms. Kennedy also performs with the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and she directs Sounds of Joy. Ms. Kennedy lives in the Great Neck section of Virginia Beach, where in her spare time she enjoys quilting and ballroom dancing.

Tom Long (Tenor)

Mary Ann Malloy (Soprano) studied classical voice at the Academy of Music in Ghent. She has been performing with Schola Cantorum since 2001, and she also serves on the board as the group's webmaster. Ms. Malloy is an NPM-trained Catholic Cantor and has studied in Virginia Wesleyan College's Church Music program. She is a section leader at Larchmont United Methodist Church. Ms. Malloy is an engineering professional with the MITRE Corporation and resides with her family in Virginia Beach.

Mary Ransone (Soprano II) has been performing with Schola Cantorum since Fall 2002. She also sings with the Sanctuary Choir of First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Ms. Ransone has an MSed degree from Old Dominion University. She is a 4th grade teacher at Norfolk Collegiate School and she also serves on the Teacher Advisory Panel of the Virginia Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach. Ms. Ransone lives with her husband and two children in the Cromwell Place section of Norfolk.

Elizabeth "Betty Jo" Schellenberg (Soprano II) joined Schola Cantorum in 1999. She has been a section leader at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk since 1984 and resumed performing with the Virginia Symphony Chorus in Fall 2000. Ms. Schellenberg serves on the Board of the Virginia Chorale as Secretary and as Chair of the Education Committee. She lives with her husband in Virginia Beach where she enjoys gardening, reading and their seven grandchildren.
